An elegant basic featuring a fluidly draped silhouette, the Ebony Dress is a versatile wardrobe staple you’ll want to wear every day.
Make a swingy knit dress (view A), with your choice of scoop or jewel neckline, and long or 3/4 sleeves.
Knits can be a little scary if you haven't worked with them before, but we're here to tell you...
The Cloth Pocket Studio is proud to offer a Knit Apparel course where one will learn how to:
- Read a knit apparel sewing pattern
- Lay out a pattern on fabric
- Use a serger
- Calculate neck binding
- Finish a knit seam
- Set a knit sleeve
- Finish a knit hem
- Make Closet Case's Ebony Dress from start to finish!
This class will be taught by Dixie Davis of Dixie DIY.
The course will take place on one day for 4 hours. It is designed to accommodate 3-6 students.
Prerequisites: You need to know how to use a sewing machine on your own and how to successfully sew a straight stitch. It is recommended that you have completed a few woven projects on your own.
Pattern is included in the class price, and will be reserved for you at the shop for pick up!
PREP WORK: Press and rough cut paper tissue pattern!
(Your pattern will be set aside at the shop a week before class for you to pick up)
Using a dry iron on medium heat, press pattern tissue to flatten any wrinkles or creases. Cut each pattern piece in a blob to separate it from the larger sheet. Do not cut out a size or cut on any lines, just a blob around the piece. We will measure and do sizing before we cut any actual pattern pieces out in class together.
Wash your fabric to pre-shrink fabric. Regular cold wash and tumble dry is fine for most fabric.
Sewing machines can be rented for $5 for the course. It is recommended that you bring a machine if you own one so that you may learn to sew on the machine that you'll be using the most. Sergers will be provided at no cost to the students, but feel free to bring one if you have one!
