Woven Apparel - City Gym Shorts | Beginner/ Intermediate Class

Date and Time: Sat Apr 1, 3p-6pm

We'll choose adorable fabrics and learn to make these classic comfy shorts! We will learn to make bias tape to give our shorts that extra something special! Pattern is made to fit hip sizes 33-34 (35-37, 38-40, 41-43, 44-46) inches in circumference. 

In our Purl Soho City Gym Shorts class, one will learn how to:

  • Read an apparel sewing pattern
  • Lay out a pattern on fabric
  • Sew and press a seam
  • Finish a seam with a serger
  • Make bias binding
  • Sew an elastic waistband
  • Make a pair of shorts from start to finish!

This class will be taught by Amy Gennrich of HelloAmyJane.

The course will take place in one day for three hours. It is designed to accommodate 4-8 students.

Prerequisites: Ability to operate a sewing machine on your own; have successfully completed a couple of woven projects on your own.


Sewing machines can be rented for $5 for the course. It is recommended that you bring a machine if you own one so that you may learn to sew on the machine that you'll be using the most.

-Sewing Machine (one can be rented for $5)
-*1/2 yards fabric for the front (cotton broadcloth, lawn) PREWASH before class!
-*1 yard of broadcloth for back and binding PREWASH before class!
-*2 yards of braided elastic 1" wide
-*Fabric Scissors
-*Seam ripper
-*Sewing machine needle (at least size 80/12)
-Paper Scissors
-Pen/Pencil for taking notes
